Note regarding unreleased projects: The 12" LP projects (from 2001 and 2006) were each taken to the point of test pressings, but were not released due to technical issues. However, some test pressings of For Bag/Derek (dedicated to a stray cat that Rod adopted and to the late master of improvised guitar, Derek Bailey) were given out to reviewers and friends. These two albums are solo performances that should be considered as the successors to The Death Adder and December 1996. There was more than enough material recorded for a second Acoustic Guitar Trio album, and Rod played me some mock-ups at the time. But this project and the Poole and Grigsby album were not released largely due to economic or marketing concerns. Recordings with Pat Thomas (piano and electronics) and Dominic Lash (bass) were made when Poole visited Oxford in 2005, and Rod expressed interest in releasing this music, though he had not found an interested label. The Poole and Grady project was a work in progress and there are more unreleased recordings with Sasha as well. There are also recent solo pieces, recorded in mono on a Nagra tape deck, in which Rod was expanding his style to incorporate a unique approach to melody. And of course, there are many as yet unreleased live recordings, spanning from his days with the Oxford Improvisers Collective in the 1980s to his shows in recent years in New York, Los Angeles, and elsewhere.
